В 2008 г. AT&T планирует существенно улучшить качество 3G-покрытия и добавить 3G-связь в более чем 80 городах. До конца года связь третьего поколения будет доступна в 100 крупнейших городах страны.
К середине года телекоммуникационная компания оборудует первые в стране HSUPA-сети. Также имеются планы насчет сетей четвертого поколения.
Аналитики отмечают, что 3G iPhone должен быть готов к лету. Рэндалл Стивенсон, главный исполнительный директор компании AT&T, обещал появление данного девайса в 2008 г. Возможно, инициатива по развертыванию 3G объясняется подготовкой сети для запуска гаджета Apple.
